La Bocata has been at 16 Dynevor Street since September 2025, doing one thing properly: Spanish sandwiches, cut thick and built to order. Nothing is made before you ask for it, which is why the reviews keep coming back to how fresh it all tastes.
The sandwiches run on three boards. Bocatas de España are the originals, chorizo, Serrano, Manchego and calamari. Bocatas de Hogar are Merthyr's own, named after the people and places round here, The Merfa and The Taff among them. Bocatas del Mundo picks up everywhere else: Philly steak, Louisiana Cajun, Egyptian falafel.
If none of the three is what you fancy, you build your own instead, up to two meats. There is a vegan bocata and a veggie one on the board, a plain salad bowl, patatas bravas with a fiery salsa brava, and churros rolled in cinnamon sugar with a thick hot chocolate to dunk them in.
Two things worth knowing before you come. The savouries, the pasties and pastries, are pre-order only, so those need a phone call. And if you have an allergy, tell us before you order and we will talk you through it.
